The Monstera Deliciosa is also called the Swiss Cheese Plant. The plant owes its name to the special shape of the leaf. As the name implies, the leaves are full of holes. These holes do not only look nice, but in nature they are also very useful. They prevent the plant from being blown over in a storm, as most of the wind and rain passes through the holes. Originally, the Monstera comes from South and Central America where it often grows upwards on tree trunks, or meanders along the ground. This plant therefore comes with a moss stick on which it can grow.

Originally, the Monstera is a tropical plant. Therefore, the plant likes to always have a slightly moist potting soil. Just make sure that there is no layer of water at the bottom of the pot. Try to spray the leaves of the Monstera regularly, this will prevent the leaf edges from drying out. The Monstera can grow very fast, developing long branches with leaves that can be several meters long. It is also good to know that the Monstera is poisonous. So place the plant in a place where children and pets cannot reach it. However, make sure the plant is in partial shade or another bright spot. Avoid direct sunlight, as the Monstera is a true shade plant. That's how you keep a happy Monstera. And it gives you a lot in return!
