The Phalaenopsis, also known as moth orchid, is native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, the Philippines and Australia, where it mainly grows in trees. The butterfly orchid is incredibly popular and it is not hard to see why. Not only does the orchid produce elegant flowers in beautiful colours, it is also easy to care for and has a long flowering period that can last up to three months. Also, the Phalaenopsis is one of the few species that gives multiple flower branches per year. The Phalaenopsis white produces beautiful white flowers on 2 flower branches.
The Phalaenopsis prefers a minimum night temperature of 16°C and a maximum day temperature of 32°C. The ideal day temperature is between 20 and 22°C. Place the orchid in a bright spot, but without direct sunlight, especially in the summer months. Are the leaves turning yellow? The plant probably gets too much direct sunlight. Flower buds that are falling off or dark green leaves, on the other hand, indicate a lack of light. Do not pour the water for the orchid into the heart of the plant, but rather onto the soil in the pot. Better still is to submerge the pot in a bucket for a minute. Then the orchid can safely do without water for seven days. Preferably use special orchid potting soil.
